Incident at 9636 Crofton

September 2, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 9636 Crofton about 9 p.m. on Friday (September 1).

The victim, Augustin Agathe Jr., 23, of 15430 East Freeway #14, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper chest and was taken to LBJ General Hospital where he later died.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Torres and Officer T. Hufstedler reported:

Officers responded to a shooting call at the above location and found the victim with a gunshot wound to his chest. Witnesses reported that the victim had apparently shot himself while trying to unload a semi-automatic handgun. Early indications are that the victim accidentally shot himself, however further scientific testing by the HPD Crime Lab and the Harris County Medical Examiner's office will be conducted to determine if these findings are correct.
