Traffic Incident at 7000 Southwest Freeway

September 23, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 7000 block of the Southwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 59 South) about 11:10 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 22).

The name of a deceased pedestrian, a female believed to be about 40 years old, has not been released pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D.S. Runyan and Officer S.M. Johnson reported:

The female pedestrian attempted to cross the freeway on foot when a vehicle driving in the southbound lanes of the freeway fatally struck her.

No charges are expected to be filed against the driver at this time.
