Incident at 7207 North Loop East

February 15, 2007 -- A suspect has been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 7207 North Loop East about 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday (February 14).

The suspect, Edward Jerome Brown (b/m, DOB 7-29-68), is charged with murder in the 179th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Michael Dan Hoyt, 60, of 100 Mulberry, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.D. Newcomb and Officer A. Mares reported:

Mr. Hoyt arrived at 7207 North Loop East, Service Wire, to pick up his wife who works at this business. Mr. Hoyt was waiting in the break room when Brown, also an employee, entered. After standing around for several minutes and looking into the surveillance camera, Brown produced a concealed handgun and approached Mr. Hoyt and shot him once in the head.

Several employees who knew Brown were in the break room at the time of the shooting and were able to disarm and detain him until police arrived.

Preliminary investigation revealed the shooting was captured by surveillance cameras in the break room. The suspect was found to be in possession of two additional magazine clips for his pistol.
