March 23, 2007 -- Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one man and wounding of another at 8800 Hammerly about 11:35 p.m. on Feb. 17.

The suspect, Angel Gabriel Ramos (H/m, DOB: 8-23-77), is facing charges of capital murder. He was arrested today (March 23) in an unrelated incident and confessed he committed this murder and various other crimes.

The deceased victim, Presiliano Arizmendez, 40, of 8800 Hammerly #1205, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died from his injuries on February 20 at Ben Taub General Hospital. A second victim also suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was hospitalized in serious condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants E. Gonzalez, J McGalin and Officers R. Chappell, C. Hufstedler and A Mejia reported:

Mr. Arizmendez was leaving a parking lot when Ramos approached him and demanded his wallet. The second victim saw the confrontation as the suspect shot Arizmendez. When the second victim fought with Ramos, he was shot. Both victims were taken to Ben Taub General Hospital.

Ramos was seen leaving in a blue, older-model, two-door vehicle, with several other individuals inside.

Due to the nature of the crime, investigators believe Ramos might be involved in committing other crimes in the surrounding area where this shooting occurred.
