Incident at 1220 Homer

May 6, 2007 - Houston Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a man and his common-law wife at 1220 Homer about 12:15 p.m. on Saturday (May 5).

The female victim is identified as Kendra Brooks, 20, of 12600 Dunlap #1039. The male victim is identified as Anthony Mack, 21, of an unknown address. Both victims sustained a gunshot wound to the head and were pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Kennedy and Officer T.W. Miller reported:

According to witnesses, Mack, Kendra (his common-law wife) and their four-year-old child were living in Mack's parent's home and the couple had been arguing a lot recently. Witnesses observed one such argument on Thursday night (May 3) and Brooks was asked to leave the residence on Homer. At some point late Friday night or early Saturday morning, Mack allowed Brooks to return to the residence after the couple made up and discussed plans to get their own apartment. Shortly after noon on Saturday (May 5), the couple's 4-year-old child discovered both victims dead in their bedroom.

Based on evidence discovered at the scene, it appears that one of the victims shot the other and then committed suicide. Investigators are unsure at this time which victim, Mack or Brooks, killed the other.

The investigation is continuing.
