Investigation into Shooting Incident at 3400 Eastex Freeway

March 14, 2016 - Houston police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting incident at 3400 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) service road about 5:45 p.m. on Saturday (March 12).

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Officer K. Levi, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured.  Officer Levi, assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in October 2012.

HPD Homicide Division Officers T. Colbert and D. Crowder reported:

Officer Levi observed a male damaging a street sign at the above address.  The officer approached the male and gave verbal commands to him to stop causing the damage.  The male refused the commands and instead charged at the officer.  The officer deployed his Conducted Energy Device (CED), but it had no effect on the male, who exhibited signs of being intoxicated.  When the male suspect continued to charge at the officer, the officer discharged his duty weapon and struck the suspect.  The male was pronounced dead at the scene.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
