May 4, 2006 -- Houston police are awaiting results of an autopsy in the death of a man found at 6000 Eastex Freeway service road about 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday (May 3).

The victim's identity and cause of death are pending an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant D. A. Ferguson and Officer T. S. Tyler reported:

A man was walking his dog when he smelled a foul odor coming from under the bridge of the Eastex Freeway (US 59 North) and discovered the body of the victim. The victim was in the advanced stages of decomposition and appeared to have been at this location for several days.

UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2020 Fatal Shooting at 300 Cartersville Street

March 19, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man found at 300 Cartersville Street about 4:30 p.m. on November 23, 2020.

The suspect, Robert Earl Chenier (b/m, 29), is charged with murder in the 185th State District Court. A booking photo of Chenier is attached to this news release.

The victim, Shaun Lewis, 37, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives B. Nabors and J. Flores reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a deceased person at the above address. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Lewis lying in a vacant field, possibly shot. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased.

At the time, there were no known suspects nor motive.

Further investigation led to the identity of Chenier as the suspect in this case and he was arrested on Thursday (March 18) without incident.
