WHO:   • Mayor Annise D. Parker
  • Houston City Council Member Mike Laster
  • Solid Waste Management Department Director Harry J. Hayes
  • Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc. Chief Executive Officer Graeme Burnett

WHY: Polystyrene foam provides superior performance in packaging and food applications, but unfortunately it ends up in our landfills. Now there is a solution. Starting June 25, 2012, Houstonians will be able to bring clean used polystyrene foam to the Westpark Recycling Center, along with their other recyclables. The polystyrene foam will be compacted and recycled (reused) by a certified recycling partner. The recycling partner will collect the material and deliver it to market users who develop products based on recycled plastics.
