Housing Resource

Welcome to the City of Houston’s (City) Housing Resource Center. This site was created to help potential homebuyers purchase new or existing homes using financial assistance from the City. The City has created three (3) downpayment assistance programs to help families achieve the dream of homeownership. Please click on one of the boxes below to find out more detailed information about each program.

After you have selected a program, please follow this path to homeownership:

  1. Contact one of our HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agencies (updated 9.25.2009) to take required homebuyer education and obtain an eight (8) hour homebuyer education certificate.

  2. Schedule an appointment with an Approved Lending Partner (updated 12.10.2009).

  3. Once pre-approved for a loan, contact a Realtor. However, you are not required to use a Realtor.

  4. Locate a property.

  5. After the property is selected, provide additional property documents to the Lender and they will submit them to the City for review.

    • During the City’s review process, you may be contacted for additional information.

  6. Once the file is approved or denied, the Lender and potential homebuyer will be contacted via letter and/or telephone by the City.

If you are a Realtor, Lender and/or Builder and would like more information about our programs, please visit the Stakeholder Connection page.
