July 30, 2018 - The fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 11479 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 11:30 p.m. on Friday (July 27) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

Benito Banda Deleon, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives T.Jackson and K. Heaverlo reported:  

Mr. Deleon was inside a sports bar at the above address when he got into an argument with a woman.  An on-duty security guard asked him to leave.  Deleon and another unknown male left the bar, threatening to have additional people come to the business and harm the security guard.  This prompted the guard to ask for assistance from a second, armed security guard working at an adjacent nightclub.  

While both guards were standing outside the sports bar, Delelon, the second unknown male and a third individual aggressively approached the guards.  A fight ensued during which Deleon and the unknown male pushed the second guard to the ground, severely injuring his shoulder.

Fearing he or his partner would either be further seriously injured or killed, the security guard drew his pistol and shot Deleon.  The unknown male fled the scene.

The injured guard called 9-1-1 and performed CPR on Deleon until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced him deceased.
