The identity of the male suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Ynosencio and Detectives E. Contreras and R. Gonzalez reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an assault- family violence call at the above address and found the female victim badly beaten.  When officers attempted to question the suspect he became agitated and resisted their efforts to detain him.  Both officers deployed their conducted energy devices (CEDs) and, with the aid of additional officers, were able to take the suspect into custody.  Believing the suspect to be under the influence of narcotics, officers requested the assistance of Houston Fire Department paramedics.

While being treated by paramedics, the suspect suffered a seizure and both he and the victim, who suffered severe injuries, were transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital.

On Friday (May 10), the suspect suffered a heart attack and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.  Preliminary testing by the hospital and the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences found the the suspect to be under the influence of Phencyclidine (PCP) and cocaine.

The investigation is continuing.
