August 16, 2021 - Charges have been filed against two suspects - one of whom is still wanted - in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of a juvenile male at 12520 Mews Circle that occurred about 5:30 p.m. on February 27.

The wanted suspect is Markell Covon Hatchett (b/m, 20), who was charged with capital murder in the 183rd State District Court on July 24.  A photo of Hatchett is attached to this news release.

The second suspect, Antwraine Kevon Garror (b/m, 26), was charged with capital murder in the 183rd State District Court on April 8 and arrested the same day.   A current booking photo of Garror is attached to this news release.

The victim, Jaylen Brawley, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The juvenile male, 15, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

HPD Homicide Division Officers C. Arrington and L. Osborn reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found Mr. Brawley deceased from gunshot wounds.  Officers learned the second victim had been transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. 

At this time, the motive for the shooting appears to be robbery.  Detectives are still investigating the possible involvement of additional suspects.
