Investigation into Fatal Crash at 10400 Southwest Freeway

August 23, 2021 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 10400 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 6:20 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 22).

The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer M. Ramos reported:

A white Jeep Grand Cherokee with engine trouble was stopped in a moving lane of traffic on the freeway at the above address when one of the occupants (victim) in the Jeep stepped out of the vehicle.  When he went around to the passenger side of the vehicle, the victim was struck by a white Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck.  The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Dodge stopped and did not show signs of intoxication.  He consented to a mandatory blood draw and was released with no charges filed at this time.

The investigation is continuing.
