VOLUNTEER INITIATIVES PROGRAM - Houston Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association

The Houston Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association (HCPAAA) was formed in 1989 and is open to all graduates of the Houston Citizens’ Police Academy. The purpose of the HCPAAA is:
  • To bring together the graduates of the Houston Citizens’ Police Academy, to enhance the relations between the community and the police force, and to assist all law enforcement agencies.
  • To share the values and guiding principles of the Houston Police Department with other citizens and to improve the efficiency of law enforcement in the neighborhoods through shared responsibilities and resources.

Members of the alumni provide a valuable service to the Houston Police Department in volunteering their personal time to enhance the overall delivery of police service to the citizens of Houston. Some of the activities and events the HCPAAA participate in include, but are not limited to:

  • Speak to other organizations about programs and events citizens can participate in to support the Houston Police Department’s fight against crime.
  • Provide volunteers to assist the department at the Police Academy during Police Week (May) when thousands of children and adults tour the Police Academy facility.
  • Recognizing the Honor Cadet with a plaque at Cadet Graduation.
  • Lynn Clooney Memorial Award - Recognizing an officer each year for their outstanding performance.
  • “Comida” Food Drive – The Alumni co-sponsors the department’s food drive usually held the first Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of December. The corporate sponsors are Fiesta Marts and the Pepsi Bottling group. The HCPAAA provide assistance in the collection of food and money at local Fiesta Marts and also provide assistance boxing the collected food at the Pepsi Bottling warehouse. The food is given to local churches who in turn deliver the food to needy families during the Christmas Holidays.
