- The “National Battle of the Bands” event was established as the premier kickoff to the fall marching band season, featuring electrifying performances by the country’s top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) marching bands. This exciting event not only captivates diverse audiences – including teens, young adults, families, college-educated professionals, blue-collar workers, and active seniors – but also highlights the cultural significance of HBCU bands. As the largest African American event in Texas, the National Battle of the Bands has provided over $200,000 in scholarships and generated a $20 million economic impact for Houston and Harris County. The 2022 NBOTB weekend saw more than 55,000 attendees, over 10,000 participants in ancillary events, and over 2,200 participating band members. More info at www.nationalbattleofthebands.com.
