James Walker, whom fellow officers described as a "confirmed motorcycle man," was killed Friday, March 8, 1963, when his motorcycle rammed the rear of a car during the morning rush hour traffic. His motorcycle struck the rear of a car driven by Mrs. Florence L. Cundiff, on the east side service road in the 6100 block of the North Freeway. No charges were filed at that time.
Police said the accident occurred when Mrs. Cundiff changed lanes on the service road. Walker apparently was chasing a speeder when the accident happened. Officer Walker, 41, died about an hour after the accident in St. Joseph's Hospital. It is presumed after the autopsy that he died from a heart attack.

Officer Walker had been on the police force since 1948 and had been a motorcycle patrolman since 1951.
Officer J.T. Walker is survived by his wife, Ethel Mae Walker; and five children, Mrs. Ned Montgomery, Mrs. Charles Sullivan, Tommie Walker, Jamie Walker, and James T. Walker Jr.
