Officer Sander was on duty on a three-wheeled motorcycle. He was shot once and was dead on arrival at Ben Taub Hospital. Sander fired five shots at his assailant, who drove away at a high rate of speed, according to witnesses. The witnesses described the killer's car as a two-tone, late model Pontiac. Five empty shells were found in Officer Sander's gun. The killer apparently shot him off the motorcycle. The cycle was found on its side in the street. Sander was unable to talk before he died.
