Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting Incident at 8302 Broadway


March 10, 2017 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 8302 Broadway Street about 3:35 p.m. on Thursday (March 9).

The suspect, Marquise Emmanuel Morris (b/m, 25), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 177th State District Court.  A photo of Morris is attached to this news release.

The victim, Sajid Mamdani, 40, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Rhoads and Officer M. Arrington reported:

Mr. Mamdani was working at the Metro PCS cellphone store at the above address when suspect Morris entered.  Morris began arguing with Mamdani about a previous cellphone purchase that had been made several months prior.  When Mamdani did not recognize Morris, Morris became angry, produced a hand gun, and shot Mamdani several times.  Morris was arrested at the scene.
