Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 11800 Hempstead Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 11800 Hempstead Road about 7:40 p.m. last Friday (April 6).

The suspect, Cory Layne Jinks (w/m, 25), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 338th State District Court.  A booking photo of Jinks is attached to this news release.

The identity of the deceased male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Warhol and Officer M. Mathews reported:

Witnesses stated Jinks was driving a maroon Dodge Ram pickup truck at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic and running red lights when he drove the wrong way down a one way section of street at the above address.  The truck then struck head-on a gray Mazda 3.  Both vehicles ended up in a ditch on the south side of Hempstead Road. 

The driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene.  Jinks was evaluated by officers at the scene and determined to be intoxicated.  He was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
