Investigation into Fatal Crash at 3400 North Freeway

August 13, 2018 - Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash at 3400 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday (August 12).

The identities of the deceased male victims, 27 and 23, are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer R. Romo reported:

A gray Dodge Charger and a black Dodge Ram pickup truck were stopped in the main lanes of the North Freeway and the drivers had exited their vehicles.  At this time, it has not been determined if either vehicle was disabled or if they were involved in a crash.  A male driver of a white Ford F-150 pickup truck failed to control his speed and struck the rear of the Charger, which then struck the Dodge pickup truck.

A white Honda Civic traveling behind the Ford pickup truck swerved to the right to avoid the vehicles and struck both victims.  The Honda came to a stop on the outside shoulder of the freeway and the driver remained at the scene.

While HPD officers and HFD paramedics were on scene providing assistance to the victims, the driver of the Ford F-150 fled the scene in a white extended cab Toyota Tundra pickup truck.

Paramedics pronounced one victim dead at the scene and transported the second victim to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
