Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 2398 North Loop West

July 16, 2018 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash that occurred at at 2398 North Loop West (North Interstate Highway 610 West) about 3:20 a.m. on Saturday (July 14).

The suspect, Oscar Pinto Mejia  (H/m, 37), is charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid in the 184th State District Court.  A photo of Mejia is attached to this news release.

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Maness and Officer F. Flynn reported:

The suspect, Mejia, was driving a blue Infinity G35 at a high rate of speed southwest at the above address when he struck a black Ford F-150 pickup truck.  The victim was ejected from the pickup truck and pronounced dead at the scene.  

Mejia exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was found a short time later.  An officer with the HPD DWI Task Force evaluated Mejia and found him to be under the influence of alcohol.  He was subsequently arrested and charged in this case.
