July 16, 2018 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the assault of a man at 3910 Vaughn about 11 p.m. on Sunday (July 15).

The suspect, Jake Amaro (w/m, 36), is charged with felony assault in the 338th State District Court.  A booking photo of Amaro, who remains hospitalized, is not available at this time.

HPD Major Assaults and Family Violence Division Officers J. Roberts and G. Black reported:

Officers were dispatched to a stabbing call at a residence at the above address and found a victim, Mr. Martin Amaro, 53, with multiple bruises and a laceration to his face.  Officers learned Amaro's son, Jake, was the suspect and he had been taken to an area hospital for superficial stab wounds.

The father and son were drinking much of the day and got into an argument that became physical when the son started punching his father in the face and chest.  The son then wrapped his hands around his father's neck causing pain and impeding his breathing.  At that time, the father was forced to use an ice pick to force his son off him.

Assault charges were subsequently filed against the son.
