Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 9800 Mesa Road

October 9, 2018 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 9800 Mesa Road about 6:35 p.m. on Thursday (October 4).

The suspect, Joseph Donta Lott (w/m, 25), is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 208th State District Court.  A booking photo of Lott is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim, 52, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer C. Cisneros reported:

Lott was driving a maroon Toyota Corolla southbound on Mesa Road when he failed to yield the right of way making a left turn onto Sterlingshire Street and struck a silver Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling south on Mesa Road.  A passenger (victim) in the Toyota was ejected from the vehicle and onto the roadway, where he was then struck by an unknown black vehicle.  The drivers of the Toyota and the black vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim.  About 90 minutes later, Lott returned to the crash scene and was taken into custody.
