UPDATE:  Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2017 Fatal Shooting at 9550 Deering

September 25, 2018 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9550 Deering about 11:40 a.m. on April 26, 2017.

The suspect, Rodrigo Santos (H/m, 22), is charged with murder in the 178th State District Court for his role in the killing of Melvin Jermaine Davis, 28.  A booking photo of suspect Santos is not available at this time pending further investigation.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Elsbury and Detective K. Elliott reported:

Mr. Davis was in the parking lot of the Vineyard Townhomes at the above address when a dark-colored Chevrolet Avalanche pulled into a parking space a short distance away.  A short time later, an unknown male suspect exited the vehicle and fired a gun at Davis, striking him several times.  HFD paramedics transported Davis to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  

The suspect was described only as a male in a possibly blue or black Chevrolet Avalanche with stock wheels and no front license plate.  

Further investigation led to the identity of Rodrigo Santos as the suspect in this case.  He was charged and arrested without incident on Monday (September 24).
