New Suspect Identified, Arrested and Charged in 2010 Homicide

December 23 2019 - Houston police have identified a suspect responsible for a 2010 stabbing that occurred at 710 Pacific about 11:40 p.m. on December 10, 2010.

The suspect, Jemarico Devon Carter (b/m, 41) is charged with murder in the 174th State District Court.  Carter is in custody in Atlanta, Georgia and no booking photo is available at this time.

Carter is accused in the stabbing death of Aaron Sheerhoorn, 28.

During the original investigation, Lydell Grant, 42, was arrested, charged and subsequently convicted in Sheerhoorn's death.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. Burrow and R. Rodriguez reported:

On December 10, 2010, Mr. Scheerhoorn was stabbed multiple times in the parking lot of the Blur Bar at the above address and was pronounced dead at the hospital.  In the subsequent investigation, Lydell Grant was identified as the possible suspect as a result of a Crime Stoppers tip.  Grant was placed in a photo spread and picked out as the suspect by six eyewitnesses.  He was charged with murder and, in 2012, was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

In 2019, DNA trace evidence was retested and the new results excluded Grant.  The new results also showed an unknown male profile that was entered into CODIS.  A CODIS hit named Carter as the possible match.  The case was re-investigated and Carter was taken into custody in Atlanta, GA.  He was subsequently interviewed by HPD Homicide detectives and gave a confession regarding the murder of Scheerhoorn.
