Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 5707 West Airport Boulevard

February 11, 2019 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 5707 West Airport Boulevard about 6:15 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 9).

The victim, Martin Lopez, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Officers M. Barrow and J. Stroble reported:

Mr. Lopez's common-law spouse was with her sister in the bedroom of the residence at the above address when the shooting occurred.

The family members were preparing for a surprise birthday party at the residence.  Lopez had legally purchased a firearm and asked his spouse to bring it to him while they were inside their bedroom.  The gun was separate from the magazine, leading all persons to believe it was not loaded.  While handing the gun to Lopez, it appeared the trigger was pulled and the gun discharged.  Lopez was fatally struck in the head.

No charges have been filed as the investigation is continuing.  Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
