Investigation into Fatal Crash at 8500 West Loop South

January 22, 2019 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 8500 West Loop South (West Interstate Highway 610 South) about 1:50 a.m. on Sunday (January 20).

The identities of the male and female victims are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Uribe and Officer J. Hill reported:

A white Lexus GS 300 was disabled in a northbound moving lane of traffic at the above address due to a previous accident when it was struck from behind by a silver Ford Taurus.  The impact caused the Lexus to swerve to the left where it was struck by a black Ford F-150 pickup truck.  The Lexus then struck a concrete barrier.  The Ford then struck another vehicle that was parked in the emergency lane of the freeway.

The male in the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene.  The female passenger in the Lexus was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital where she later died.

The driver of the Ford F-150, Jacob Austin Emery (w/m, 27), was determined to be intoxicated.  After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, Emery was determined not to be at fault in the crash, however he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #6.  A booking photo of Emery is attached to this news release.

The investigation is continuing.
