Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 6922 South Loop East

July 17, 2020 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 6922 South Loop East (South Interstate Highway 610 East) service road about 6:15 a.m. today (July 17).

The victim, Jorge Osman Amaya, 51, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Huff and J. Nguyen reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex at the above address.  Upon arrival, they found Mr. Amaya being transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to the hospital.

Witnesses told investigators that Amaya was waiting in the apartment complex parking lot for his construction work crew to arrive.  While waiting, he was approached by two young Hispanic males who demanded his backpack.  One of them then shot Amaya.  Both suspects then fled in separate directions on foot before being picked up in a dark-colored, four-door passenger vehicle.

The suspects are described only as young Hispanic males, approximately 15 to 16 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, dark-skinned with black hair.
