Suspect Arrested, Charged in Child's Death at 11243 East F.M. 1960 Road

November 30, 2020 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the the death of a female child at 11423 East F.M. 1960 Road that occurred about 1:40 p.m. on Sunday (November 29).  

The suspect, Melynda C. Davis (b/f, 41), is charged with injury to a child and tampering with evidence in the 176th State District Court.  A booking photo of Davis is attached to this news release.  

The identity of the child, 4, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Burrow and Detective M. Estep reported: 

HPD patrol officers responded to a call from Houston Fire Department paramedics regarding a deceased child with possible abuse injuries.  The child suffered blunt force trauma and was transported to HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.  

A preliminary investigation indicated the child had suffered injuries consistent with physical abuse and the father's girlfriend (Davis) had assaulted the child and attempted to conceal evidence at the scene.  Davis was arrested and subsequently charged for her role in the child's death.  

Charges may be upgraded, pending the results of the autopsy.
