Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 9300 Southwest Freeway

August 2, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal crash that occurred at 9300 Southwest Freeway (South Interstate Highway 59) about 3:05 a.m. on Sunday (August 1).

Michael David Arevealo (H/m, 35) is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 338th State District Court.  A photo of Arevealo is attached to this news release.  

The identity of the male victim, 72, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer X. Zhang reported:

Arevealo was driving a black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck westbound on the Southwest Freeway when he left the roadway and struck a light pole.  The impact disabled the truck and it spun into moving lanes of traffic.  Approximately one minute after the initial crash, the victim, driving a silver Nissan Murano, struck the disabled Ram sitting in the moving lanes of the freeway. 

Arevealo was determined to be intoxicated and was subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
