August 30, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a shooting incident in which a Harris County Precinct 5 Deputy Constable discharged his duty weapon at a suspect who stabbed a man and woman at 10300 Mullins Drive about 10:10 a.m. on Sunday (August 29).

The suspect, James Collins Bistodeau (w/m, 23) is charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a family member and one count of aggravated assault against a police officer in the 232nd State District Court.  A booking photo of Bistodeau, who is hospitalized, is not available at this time.

The male and female victim, who both suffered multiple stab wounds, were transported to an area hospital in stable condition. 

The Harris County Precinct 5 sergeant who discharged his duty weapon was not injured in the incident.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant G. Rodgers and Detectives E. Rossow, S. Mohajer, I. Uloa and M. Childs reported:

HPD officers assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division responded to a report of an assault in the 5600 block of Wigton Drive and found Bistodeau had attacked and stabbed his mother and father and attempted to attack two other neighbors with his knife before fleeing on foot.  

HPD officers, along with several Harris County Precinct 5 deputy constables searched the area for Bistodeau and located him approximately one block away at the above address, still armed with his knife.  Officers attempted to give him space in order to facilitate a peaceful surrender, but Bistodeau sprinted towards the Precinct 5 sergeant and attacked him with the knife.  In fear of his life and for the lives of the other officers and bystanders, the Precinct 5 sergeant discharged his duty weapon at least one time and struck Bistodeau in the abdomen. 

First aid was immediately rendered to Bistodeau and he was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Memorial Hermann - Texas Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.  

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
