Suspect Charged in Woman's Death at 13098 Westheimer Road

June 4, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of a woman found after an apparent murder-suicide attempt at 13098 Westheimer Road about 6 a.m. on Wednesday (June 2).

The suspect, Mouafak Mahmo Chami (A/m, 75), is charged with murder in the 177th State District Court.  He is accused in the death of his wife, Farida Zouwawi, 69.

A booking photo of Chami, who is hospitalized in critical condition, is not available for release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Roberts and Detective L. Lange reported:

Officers responded to a person down call at an apartment complex at the above address and found a male (Chami) on the ground with severe injuries from an apparent suicide attempt, after jumping from a third story balcony.

Houston Fire Department personnel used a ladder to enter the open patio door to the apartment. Upon entry, they located a woman (Ms. Zouwawi) who had suffered blunt force trauma.  Paramedics pronounced her deceased.  Chami was transported to an area hospital.

Neighbors told detectives they heard loud arguing in the apartment prior to this incident.

After consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, murder charges were filed on Chami.
