Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 7722 Melrose Street

May 5, 2021 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 7722 Melrose Street about 12:35 a.m. today (May 6).  

The identity of the victim, between 17 and 21 years of age, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Jimenez and Detective M. Perez reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found a vehicle crash.  Officers later learned the crash was related to a shooting incident.  

A preliminary investigation indicated a dark sedan drove in front of a residence at the above address and two unknown males approached the vehicle.  One of the males got into an altercation with a backseat passenger in the vehicle.  During the altercation, the male fired a shot into the vehicle, but it is unknown if anyone was struck at that time.  As the vehicle drove away, the male fired several more shots at the vehicle.  The driver was struck at least once and crashed into a parked vehicle.  Paramedics transported the driver to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased,
