Investigation into Fatal Crash at 8500 Martin Luther King Boulevard

April 18, 2022 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 8500 Martin Luther King Boulevard about 11:50 a.m. on Saturday (April 16).
The identity of the female victim, 19, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer M; Lares reported:
According to witnesses, the driver of a Chevrolet Cruze was traveling at ta high rate of speed northbound on Martin Luther King Boulevard and crossed Reed Road. The victim (pedestrian) was crossing Martin Luther King Boulevard from the median - not in a crosswalk - and was struck by the Cruze. The Cruze veered off the roadway, struck a light pole and then a Metro bus stop. The Cruze then burst into flames and was partially burned.
The victim was pronounced deceased by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics. The female driver, 20, of the Cruze and her one-year-old passenger were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
The investigation will be pending a referral to a Harris County Grand Jury.
