Investigation into Fatal Crash at 500 North Loop West

January 18, 2022 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 500 North Loop West (North Interstate Highway 610 West) about 2:25 p.m. on Sunday (January 16).  

The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeants S. Jewell and G. Clark and Officer F. Serna reported:  

A Cascadia tractor-trailer truck was towing a refrigerated box truck westbound near the above address.  According to witnesses, a pedestrian (victim) was on the north side of the freeway, standing in the grass near the emergency lane beside construction traffic barrels and appeared to be preparing to run towards the freeway.  The pedestrian then ran onto the freeway and into the path of the oncoming tractor-trailer and was struck. 

The driver of the tractor-trailer stopped and provided medical assistance to the pedestrian.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  The driver of the truck showed no signs of impairment and was questioned and released at the scene.
