July 25, 2022 - Houston police are investigating officer-involved shootings at 15500 Corsair Road and 15500 Winter Briar Dr. following a Missouri City Police Department pursuit that started about 2:35 a.m. on Saturday (July 23) that led to an injured a Missouri City police officer and a deceased male suspect.

The identity of the male suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Officers J. Rodgers and M. Duron who discharged their duty weapons, were not injured in this incident. They are both assigned to HPD Tactical Operations and were sworn in as officers in June 2012 and October 2017, respectively.

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and a Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office deputy also discharged their weapons.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant R. Flores and Detectives R. Anderson, N. Arellano, and C. Walker reported:

An officer with the Missouri City Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle reported stolen by the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The suspect refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. He lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Corsair Road and Maywood Drive and crashed in the front yard of a residence.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot, while a juvenile passenger remained in the vehicle. A Missouri City police officer pursued the suspect into the backyard of a residence in the 15500 block of Corsair Road. As the Missouri City officer approached, the suspect fired multiple times, striking the officer two times. The suspect fled the scene.

The Missouri City officer was transported to a local hospital in a patrol vehicle with non-life threatening injuries.

HPD officers, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and a Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office deputy later located the suspect in the back yard of a residence in the 15500 block of Winter Briar Drive. As they entered the backyard, the suspect fired his weapon at the officers. They then returned fire, striking the suspect more than one time. Officers rendered first aid to the suspect and paramedics transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office.
