UPDATE: Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 9601 Westheimer Road

March 7, 2022 - Houston police have learned the identity of a suspect believed responsible for the fatal shooting of a man at 9601 Westheimer Road about 4 p.m. on February 23.

The suspect is identified as Alberto Riascos, 18.  He was pronounced deceased on March 2 when he was shot by an HPD officer after firing a shot at the officer at 2501 Lazy Hollow Drive.

The deceased victim in the Westheimer Road shooting is identified as Clifton Zeno, 47.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Amri and K. Hale reported:

Officers responded to a shooting call at a fast food restaurant at the above Westheimer Road address and were advised that Mr. Zeno and a male suspect got into a verbal altercation in the check-out line in the restaurant lobby.  The suspect, wearing a hoodie and mask, pulled a gun and fired several shots at Zeno.  The suspect then fled on foot and responding HFD paramedics pronounced Zeno deceased at the scene.

Detectives received information indicating that Alberto Riascos was the suspect in the fatal shooting.  He was found to have an active warrant for an unrelated aggravated assault case.

On March 2, officers learned the suspect (Riascos) was at an apartment complex at 2501 Lazy Hollow Drive.  The officers observed the suspect leave his residence on foot and walk to a business.  As the suspect was walking back to his apartment, officers attempted to take him into custody.  When an HPD sergeant made contact with the suspect, Riascos produced a weapon and fired a shot.  The sergeant then discharged his duty weapon, striking Riascos.  Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

The Houston Forensic Science Center conducted testing on ballistic evidence recovered from the homicide scene at 9601 Westheimer Road and the gun recovered from the suspect at 2501 Lazy Hollow Drive.  It was determined the recovered evidence in both incidents was a match.

At this time, the department does not believe there is a continuous threat to the general public.

Anyone with additional information in either incident is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
