Investigation into Fatal Crash at 500 East Freeway

October 11, 2022 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 500 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 3:05 a.m. today.

The identity of the deceased male victim, 56, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer J. Louangpho reported:

The victim was driving a gray Toyota Tundra pickup truck westbound on the freeway at the above address. As he exited to the Interstate 45 South ramp, the driver of a white Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck suddenly changed lanes and struck the rear side of the Toyota. The impact caused the Toyota to spin across the main lanes, leave the roadway and then strike a tree. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The male driver, 23, of the Chevrolet was not injured. He was questioned and did not show signs of intoxication. A female passenger, 21, in the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries.

No charges have been filed at this time. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, it was determined the incident would be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
