Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 1400 Southwest Freeway

August 14, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 1400 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 12:55 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 13).

The male suspect, Asdenys De Armas-Perez, 40, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 262nd State District Court. A booking photo of De Armas-Perez, who remains hospitalized, is not available for release at this time.

The identity of the male victim, 23, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Y. Ramirez and Officer J. Trevino reported:

The victim was changing a tire on a vehicle in the right shoulder of the northbound lanes of the freeway at the above address when he was struck by a gray Pontiac G6. Paramedics were called and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The Pontiac's driver, De Armas-Perez, showed signs of impairment. He was transported to a hospital in stable condition. He was determined to be intoxicated and was subsequently charged in the crash.
