Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 1700 Gulf Freeway

December 11, 2023 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman and the wounding of a man at 1700 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 1:05 a.m. on Sunday (December 10).

The identity of the female victim, 17, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant N. Miyako and Detective C. Bowling reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and located a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the freeway. An unresponsive female and a male were found in the vehicle. Both had been shot. Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived, pronounced the woman deceased and transported the man, 17, to an area hospital where he was treated and released for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

A preliminary investigation determined the female was driving and attempted to avoid striking a braking vehicle ahead and unintentionally swerved in front of a newer model, black or dark-colored, four-door sedan. The sedan moved to the left of the victim's vehicle and an unknown suspect(s) fired shots from the passenger side window. The female and a male back seat passenger were struck. A second male passenger inside the vehicle was not injured.

At this time, the suspect is described only as a black male in his mid 20s.
