Suspect Charged in Man's death at 807 1/2 Oakhurst Street

January 30, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect in the death of a man following a robbery at 807 1/2 Oakhurst Street about 4:05 a.m. on June 29, 2022.  

The suspect, Jamarcus Williams Edwards, 24, is charged with murder in the 230th State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Rene Garcia, 55.

HPD Robbery Division Detective R. Evans reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to an assault at a residence at the above address and found Mr. Garcia with a laceration and a head injury.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Garcia to Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center in critical condition.  

On July 29, 2022, doctors pronounced Garcia deceased from his injuries.  The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined Garcia's manner and cause of death to be homicide.  

Further investigation identified Edwards as a suspect in this case and he was positively identified by a witness.  Edwards was arrested without incident and was subsequently charged for his role in Garcia's death.
