UPDATE: Investigation into Shooting Incident at 706 North Ella Creek Drive

July 14, 2023 - Houston police have learned the identity of an armed suspect fatally shot by two Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) deputies at 706 North Ella Creek Drive about 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday (July 12).

The deceased male is identified as Jamal Brown, 21.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant S. Dau and Detectives D. Hammons, J. Roberts and H. Le reported:

Members of the U.S. Marshal's Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force (a multi-agency task force) were serving a felony capital murder arrest warrant on Brown at the residence at the above address.  During the warrant service, task force members located and encountered Brown in the residence.  Brown produced a pistol and refused all verbal commands to surrender the pistol.  Two task force members (assigned to the HCSO) discharged weapons and fatally struck him.  It is unknown at this time if Brown discharged his weapon.  The investigation is continuing.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
