September 21, 2023 - The fatal shooting of a male at 13213 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) service road about 1:55 p.m. Wednesday (September 20) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.  

The identity of the deceased male, 31, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

The female shooter, 31, was not injured.  

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Ponder and Detective K. Stringer reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at a motel at the above address and found the male suffering a gunshot wound inside a room.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  

The man's girlfriend who remained at the scene, told detectives the male frequently assaulted her.  She stated he was choking her and she got her weapon and shot him in self defense.  

The case was presented to the Harris County District Attorney's Office and it was determined the incident would be presented to a grand jury.
