Investigation into Shooting Incident at 500 Crawford Street

September 25, 2023 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of a male by an off-duty Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper at 500 Crawford Street about 12:05 a.m. today (Sept. 25).

The male, 35, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

The trooper who discharged his weapon was not injured.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Glover and Detectives S. Mohajer, A. Henderson and I. Ulloa reported:

The trooper was inside his apartment at the above address when a male, unknown to him, attempted to enter his apartment.  The trooper identified himself and told the male to leave.  The male again attempted to enter the trooper’s apartment.  At that time, the trooper discharged his weapon one time and struck the male.  The male ran down the hallway and was later discovered on a different floor by responding HPD officers.  The male was detained and transported by paramedics to an area hospital in stable condition.

Detectives learned the male lives in the same building, but on a different floor.  It is unknown why he attempted to enter the trooper’s apartment.  The male has not been charged with a crime at this time.

As is customary when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit.  The Texas Rangers are also conducting an investigation since the officer is employed by the DPS.
