About Council Member Jerry Davis
Recognized for his community involvement, Jerry was invited to serve on the board of Change Happens!, a local community-based non-profit organization serving adults and at-risk youth in Harris County. While serving at Change Happens! Jerry recognized there was a void to be filled. Using his training in education, coupled with his desire to help children, he founded the organization Making It Better (MIB). MIB is a local non-profit whose mission is to address the severe disadvantages faced by low-income children in the Houston area by providing them with academic intervention, positive activities, and adult role models. Jerry also serves on the Houston Housing Resource Board, assisting clients of the Houston Housing Authority by developing innovative approaches to affordable housing and self-sufficiency.
Jerry received his B.A. from Washington College in 1995, and returned home to Houston to mentor youth in afterschool and sports programs. He received his state teaching certification from Houston’s University of St. Thomas. Jerry later obtained a Master’s in Education Administration from Prairie View A&M University.
In 2003, after the tragic murder of his father, Jerry made the decision to unite with his two older brothers at the family-owned restaurant, the Breakfast Klub and The Reggae Hut – two local favorites. As the CEO of Making it Better, Jerry has built a successful nonprofit with an annual budget of over $450K. He also opened the investment company EIH Investments, LLC, and manages the firm successfully to this day.
Jerry is married to his longtime sweetheart, Rachel Andress, with whom he has three beautiful children, Dean, Rylie and Ryan.
