Free Document Shredding

Mayor Annise Parker, the Department of Neighborhoods & Houston Police Department (HPD) are proud to partner with Data Shredding Services of Texas, Inc. (DSS) to provide FREE secure document shredding & ID theft prevention information for Houston residents. The shredding services are for “paper material” only. The events are offered once a month at different locations throughout Houston.

“On-Site” document shredding services is provided “Free of Charge” and is offered on a 1st come 1st serve basis to local Houston Residents.   In the event the Mobile Shredding Truck reaches its capacity and happens to fill up before your arrival other options are available ensuring the secure destruction of your confidential information.

The City of Houston has verified Data Shredding Services Credentials as a NAID “AAA” certified member of the National Association of Information Destruction for “Mobile” and “Plant-Based” information destruction.

DSS donates its resources for document shredding.

Document Shredding Initiative Ends

The Department of Neighborhoods' ID Theft Prevention & Document Shredding Initiative has ended, and there are no more shredding events scheduled. 

We thank our corporate partner Data Shredding Services of Texas, Inc. for its generous contribution of services, which benefited thousands of Houston residents over the initiative's two and a half year run.   Thanks also to the Houston Police Department for informing the public about identify theft prevention as part of this initiative.

Residents can easily access listings of established, reputable companies that offer shredding services.  Residents can also monitor Houston area community calendar listings for announcements about free shredding services that may be offered by community entities from time to time.
