Surveillance Photo, Composite Sketch of Suspect Wanted in Fatal Shooting at 6888 Gulf Freeway

December 13, 2016 - Houston police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 6888 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 10).

The suspect is described only as a black male, wearing a gray hoodie, in his 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and approximately 130 pounds.  A composite sketch of the suspect is attached to this news release.

A second suspect is described as a black male, about 6 feet tall and weighing 120 pounds with long "puffy afro" hair and wearing a short-sleeved shirt and basketball shorts, and described only as being about 6 feet 2 inches tall

The victim, Jaime Hernandez, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Miller and Officer C. Elder reported:

Mr. Hernandez and a friend had cashed checks at a business at 5823 Gulf Freeway service road and, after driving away, they noticed a vehicle was following them as they pulled into a parking lot of an IHOP restaurant at the above address.  Hernandez then backed into a space in the parking lot.  At that time, the suspects' vehicle pulled up directly in front of Hernandez's vehicle and the suspects exited their vehicle.  One male, armed with a gun, approached the driver's side door and knocked on the window with the gun.  The second suspect approached on the passenger side.  When the armed male made demands to Hernandez, he (the victim) placed his vehicle in drive and accelerated to try to flee the suspects.  The gunman then fired several shots, fatally striking Hernandez.  Both suspects then got into their vehicle, believed to be a late-model, light blue Dodge Avenger, driven by a third black male suspect and fled the scene.

A surveillance photo of the suspect vehicle is attached to this news release.
