Armed Robbery Suspect Shot at 7129 Lawndale

February 8, 2016 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an armed robbery suspect was wounded by an HPD officer at 7129 Lawndale about 9 p.m. last Friday (Feb. 5).

One male suspect, 16, suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.  The other suspect, 16, was arrested at the scene and referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a charge of aggravated robbery.

Officer K. Huey, who discharged his weapon in this incident, is assigned to the North Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in July 1995.  Officer Huey was not injured.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Daignault and Officer K. Elliott reported:

The two juvenile suspects wearing masks, one of them armed, entered the Valero gas station at the above address.  One suspect remained at the door while the second suspect entered the store, pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded money.  Officer Huey, who was working an approved extra job, was parked in the parking lot when he observed the two masked suspects run towards the store.  As Officer Huey approached the store, the suspect at the door ran inside and alerted the armed suspect.  The suspect inside then ran towards the door with the gun in his hand.  Officer Huey saw the gun in the suspect's hand and, fearing for his life, discharged his weapon.  The armed suspect was struck and transported by responding HFD paramedics to the hospital.  The other suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents inside the city limits, this incident is being investigating by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
