Investigation into Fatal Crash at 6100 Southwest Freeway

September 11, 2015 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 6100 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 8:50 a.m. today (Sept. 11).

The female victim, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer T. Riley reported:

The driver of a white Nissan Sentra was traveling south on the Southwest Freeway when she failed to drive in a single lane.  The Nissan struck a retaining wall.  The passenger side of the Nissan then struck the rear of a tow truck stopped on the left shoulder.  The front seat passenger of the Nissan died at the scene.  The driver was transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  The tow truck driver was not injured in the crash.

Currently, there are no charges in this incident and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.  Heavy rain was a factor, causing the Nissan to hydroplane.

The investigation is continuing.
