Investigation into Male Found Deceased at 9940 Richmond

September 21, 2015 - Houston police are investigating the death of a male found at 9940 Richmond Avenue about 6 a.m. on Sunday (September 20).

The male victim suffered burns and a gunshot wound.  His identity and cause of death are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Rodriguez and Officer M. Burrow reported:

The victim and three of his associates were at the Level Bar and Lounge at 9373 Richmond Avenue.  While at the bar, one of the companions got into a fight with another customer.  Everyone involved was then ordered out of the bar and the fight continued in the parking lot.  At some point during the altercation, an unknown Hispanic male produced a gun and fired at the victim and his associates.  The group managed to get to their vehicle when a large group of people surrounded the vehicle and pulled out one of the passengers.

The unknown Hispanic male then fired shot at the vehicle as it sped out of the parking lot.  The passenger that was pulled from the vehicle managed to escape on foot.  The vehicle then became disabled as the group drove away and the driver pulled into the driveway of the Richmond Green Apartments at 9940 Richmond Avenue.  Two individuals fled on foot while the victim, who suffered a gunshot wound, was left in the back seat.  At some point, the vehicle caught fire and burned with the victim inside.
At this time, it has not been determined what caused the vehicle to catch fire.  Investigators are urging anyone with information in this case to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
